System Design: Bing User Engagement system & User messaging platform
User Engagement system & User messaging platform
Building a good search engine is not easy. Users want the SE that exceeds their expectations and evolve with their needs. And it is not just about building the right features. Often a bigger challenge is teaching the users about the features and how to use them properly or even just letting them know the features exist.
To operate effectively in this digital world, the way we measure user usage and the way we educate users about new features needs to change. We need to do more than just announce features via email blasts. We also need to use a consistent content strategy and visual patterns to communicate with our users. In some cases, we need to teach users about features in the right context at the right time.
Different users have different ways to engage with our product. Base on the engagement level, we created The User lifecycle. Start from potential uses, new users, infrequent users, swing users, and fan users. Users divided by monthly Direct search query number. Base on the User lifecycle, we designed different communication methods base on each scenario.
